Harsh Noise Project

This project, which began in 2019 and completed in 2021, is a fully realized artistic endeavor. It features a rich tapestry of ambient and experimental sounds, stretched pitches, free improvisation, and unorganised noises designed to evoke discomfort in the audience.

Inspired by the struggles faced by women and children in society, this work serves as a profound commentary on these issues. The artist’s aim is to raise awareness and encourage reflection, ultimately fostering a dialogue that can lead to positive change in the world.

About

Joanna Chalkia studied Music Theory, Analysis and Composition at National Conservatoire of Thessaloniki and Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. She attended piano classes with the pianist Nikolao Zafrana at Neo Conservatoire. 

At the age of 24 she moved to Sweden where she begun composing music for video and she is currently based. 

Joanna has composed the music for the Audio Book and Virtual Art Installation ‘The Friends You Make Along The Way’, along with music for over 30 Youtube Videos. She has also completed a Harsh Noise Project (which you can find samples from above, or listen to the whole project on SoundCloud), borrowing sounds from everyday life, the Romantic Era, and synths.
